Volunteer Fire Departments

About Our Volunteer Fire Departments

The county has ten volunteer fire departments that provide fire protection to the incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county. A portion of the city of West Point is located within the county and they have a paid fire department. The ten volunteer fire departments currently maintain 17 stations and substations located throughout the county. The county provides each station with annual stipends for their operations and equipment purchases, performs repairs on the vehicles and equipment, funds property insurance for the vehicles and stations as well as workers’ compensation insurance, accident insurance, and health insurance. A Council of Fire Chiefs meets monthly to coordinate activities and operations.
