James Miley, the county’s building inspector for five years, retired during May. After advertising the position, Community Development Director, Brian Williams, has hired Robert Smith as the new building inspector beginning June 8. Before coming to Harris County, Mr. Smith was a building inspector for the Columbus-Muscogee County consolidated government for 15 years and has certifications in residential and commercial inspections and residential plan examinations by the International Code Council. Mr. Smith also has significant experience in the construction industry, concrete testing, and code compliance. With over 200 single family homes being constructed in the county every year, Mr. Smith will be an asset to the Community Development Department and to the building community in general.
