The Harris County Board of Commissioners adopted the FY 2017-18 annual budget on June 20, 2017. The $45 million dollar budget will go into effect on July 1, 2017 until June 30, 2018. Some budget highlights from the General Fund and the SPLOST funds include the addition of four new full-time deputy Sheriff positions, five new Sheriff patrol cars, new full-time appraiser position for the Tax Assessor’s Office, new 911 equipment, nine new fire trucks and increased equipment funds for the volunteer fire departments, new building for the NW Harris Fire Department, fund accounting financial software, establishment of an Information Technology department, improvements to the prison and jail, development of Ellerslie Park, playground for Pate Park, construction of a new library, paving and installation of a water line on Hardage Road, many road improvements, installation of a water line on Hadley Road, airport improvements, rails to trails project development, two garbage trucks and other equipment for the Solid Waste department, water line improvements, and a 2% cost of living allowance for all eligible employees.
