Harris County government welcomes new Parks & Recreation Director, Stephen Waskey. Mr. Waskey. has a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management degree from Georgia Southern University and over 13 years of experience in recreational services. Mr. Waskey has also earned several professional certifications in the recreation career field including being a certified youth sports administrator from the National Alliance for Youth Sports and a certified parks and recreation professional from the National Parks and Recreation Association. Mr. Waskey is also active in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) and the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). Prior positions include serving as Recreation Director for Putnam County, Recreation Leader in Gwinnett County, and Athletic Coordinator and Interim Recreation Director in Lumpkin County.
Mr. Waskey will be responsible for the county’s $1.77M recreational operations including the community center, the county’s park system, rails to trails project, developing Ellerslie Park, implementing new programing and events, and coordinating the activities of various athletic associations. Mr. Waskey, who is married with three children ages 9-15, will begin work on January 8, 2018 and will be a great asset to the Harris County management team.
