During the May 18, 2021 commission meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved Earth-Scapes, Inc. from Phenix City, AL to pave the Man O’ War Railroad Recreation Trail an additional 1.5 miles to the Callaway Country Store, on top of Pine Mountain, develop an ADA accessible trailhead at the Callaway Country Store, and rehabilitate the railroad bridge over US 27 by abating the lead-based paint, repainting the bridge, and adding a lighting feature. Earth-Scapes, Inc. submitted the low bid of $1,137,179 out of a total of five bidders. This project is being funded from county TSPLOST funds and construction is scheduled to begin during June and be completed during December 2021.
From the Callaway Country Store trailhead, trail enthusiasts can connect to the 21- mile Pine Mountain trail and FDR State Park.
