Work has begun on Phase I of the Rails to Trails project. The first phase of the ten foot wide asphalt pedestrian trail constructed on abandoned rail line begins in downtown Pine Mountain at Chipley Street and continues to the intersection of CR 354. This phase has a cost of $561,221.08 and is being funded by a $512,473 federal Transportation Enhancement grant and county SPLOST funds.
Phase II will begin at the intersection of CR 354 and continue to behind the Mountain Creek Inn and is being funded by two other federal grants, TSPLOST, and SPLOST-2019 funds. The entire project should be completed by the end of the year. The pedestrian trail will continue to be constructed as funds become available.
