Alex Santiago, Harris County’s Information Technology Director, was recently awarded the professional designation of Certified Government Chief Information Officer from the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government (CVIOG). CVIOG has partnered with the Georgia Chapter of the Government Management Information Sciences Association to offer this professional and nationally recognized program.
The program, consisting of 240 hours of in-person and on-line training and available to city, county, and state IT professionals, focuses on emerging technologies, IT security, ethics, contract management, interpersonal communications, project and resource management, sustainability, and a final capstone project. Mr. Santiago’s capstone project was the study and implementation of installing wireless devices to connect various county facilities together for more efficient, robust, and reliable internet services.
This program is only three years old and has awarded this designation to 46 IT professionals throughout the state. Harris County applauds Mr. Santiago’s achievement in receiving this professional and nationally recognized designation and keeping abreast of current trends and technology in the public sector to assist Harris County, its employees, and citizens.
