The county is preparing to resurface four county roads (5.9 miles) this Spring including:
• 1.0 miles of Cold Springs Road from Davis Lake Road to end of pavement
• 2.0 miles of Davis Lake Road from Myhand Road to Hugley Road
• 2.5 miles of Goat Rock Road from SR 219 to the dead-end
• 0.4 miles of Waterford Drive from West Bonacre Road to the dead-end
C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. was the low bidder at $894,000 for all four roads. These four roads will be resurfaced using $753,663.13 from state Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds, $95,066.87 from county SPLOST 2009 funds, and $45,270 from county SPLOST 2014 funds. In addition, the county is also improving the entrance and internal road of the Hamilton Business Park located on Georgia Highway 116. This project consists of adding a GDOT required turn lane from 116, resurfacing the existing pavement, extending the paved road into the business park, relocating water lines/fire hydrants, and installing conduit for a fiber optic cable. Alexander Contracting (Fortson, GA) was the low bidder at $398,055.81 for the road portion. The county’s Waterworks Dept. will relocate the water lines and install the conduit for the fiber optic cable for $25,000 for a total project cost of $423,055.81. This project will be funded using $298,055.81 from county SPLOST 2014 funds, $100,000 from a GDOT economic development grant, and $25,000 from the Waterworks Dept.
