The Harris County Board of Commissioners, during their September 17, 2019 regular commission meeting, proclaimed Sunday, September 22, 2019 as “American Business Women’s Day” in Harris County. This is a day set aside to honor and reflect upon the contributions and accomplishments of the millions of U.S. women in the workforce and women business owners. The American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) was founded in 1949 and is a national association of working women that has a strong tradition of promoting the advancement of women. The mission of the association is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition. ABWA Day was first held on September 22, 1982 and was officially recognized by Congressional action in 1983 and 1986. For more information about ABWA, visit their website at www.abwa.org
