March Tornado Information

- The declaration of emergency issued by the state for Harris County will end on Friday, March 15, 2019.
- Residents should not bring any additional storm debris to the road side effective midnight on Sunday, March 17.
- Harris County Public Works Department will pick up the remaining wood storm debris along the roadways in the impacted areas as time permits for the next several months. Harris County will not pick up debris on private roads.
- Harris County will not be picking up any construction material along the roadway.
- Ellerslie Park located on GA Highway 85 will remain open to accept wood storm debris only (no metal objects or construction material) until further notice. The park will eventually be closed at a date to be determined so the wood debris can be burned.
- The Harris County Transfer Station located at 4070 Barnes Mill Road in Hamilton will remain open on Saturday, March 16 until 6:00 p.m. to accept storm debris and other materials that are normally accepted. After March 16, the Transfer Station will operate during normal hours (Mon.-Sat. 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
- Do not take wood storm debris to any of the convenience sites.
- Individual citizens can apply for a burn permit to burn wood debris on-site in your yard if wanted. Call the Georgia Forestry Commission at 1-877-652-2876 or visit www.gatrees.org to obtain an individual burn permit.
- When hiring contractors, please be sure they are licensed and insured. For any structural damage, contact Harris County Community Development at 706-628-4700.
