Notice of Property Tax Increase UPDATE – 08/21/2019:
The Harris County Board of Commissioners, during their August 20, 2019 meeting and after three state required public hearings, has officially established the property tax rate for 2019. The new rate will be 9.38 mills, an increase of 0.75 mills from the previous year. Property tax bills will be distributed to all property owners in early October and will be due in mid-December.
Notice of Property Tax Increase – Original Post – 07/29/2019:
The Harris County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a 2019 millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 9.36 percent in the County Wide less West Point area and by 8.88 percent in the West Point area.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held in room 223 of the Harris County Courthouse, 102 North College Street, Hamilton, GA on August 13, 2019 at 11:00 am and 6:30 pm.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 9.38 mills, an increase of 0.803 mills in the County Wide less West Point area. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 8.577 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $64.24 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market of $125,000 is approximately $40.15.
In the West Point area, this tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 5.628 mills, an increase of .459 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 5.169 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $36.72 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market of $125,000 is approximately $22.95.
