The Harris County Commission, during their June 4, 2019 meeting, approved awarding a bid to Vickery Grinding of Fortson, Georgia to chip, grind, and transport off-site up to 27,500 cubic yards of storm debris that was collected and placed at Ellerslie Park after the March 3 tornado. The county received eight bids ranging from $4.55 to $30 per cubic yard and Vickery Grinding was the low bidder at $4.55 per cubic yard or $125,000 for 27,500 cubic yards. Once that amount is reached, the county will reassess the situation and either pay Vickery Grinding additional funds to chip and grind additional debris or the county could burn the remaining material. The chipping and grinding work should begin in late June and continue 90 days until mid Sept. 2019. Funding for this project is included in the FY 2019-20 General Fund budget.
