Harris County Prison Warden Named President of GPWA
Harris County Prison Warden, Cynthia Nelson, was named President of the Georgia Prison Wardens’ Association (GPWA) for 2022-23.
The GPWA, created in 1939, is a state-wide non-profit professional association composed of wardens from the state’s 33 prisons, 21 county correctional institutions, and four private prisons as well as superintendents from other correctional facilities including transitional centers, probation detention centers, and substance abuse centers.

Warden Nelson has been with the Harris County Correctional Institution since 2017 and has been a member of GPWA since 2002. Before joining Harris County, Warden Nelson worked for over 31 years with GDC as a state prison warden and regional director.
